Installation tips:
The repeaters amplify all operators on the included frequencies.
The external antennas have a beamwidth of 70 degrees so that all operators 70 degrees around the site can be amplified.
The UMTS antenna has a beamwidth of 30 degrees and a higher gain.
You should point the external antenna in the direction of your carrier.
You should mark the LED signal strength number (1-6).
6 LED's is an excellent good signal.
Good signal next to the indoor antenna, but no signal from 8 Meters away.
If you have only 1 or 2 showing LEDs, this means that the repeater receives a very weak external signal. It cannot distinguish very well between a valid signal and background noise. This will make a bad amplification. The result is that the signal from the indoor antenna will be strong when it is close to the indoor antenna, but will fade quickly as it moves away from the indoor antenna.
To solve this problem, you must have a better signal to the repeater. You have to get 4-6 of the LED lighting.
You can do this by using a higher gain external antenna (such as a dish or yagui) and lower loss cable (such as LMR 400 cable).
The most important thing is to get 5-6 LED's to illuminate on the repeater.
unsure if you have the right frequency repeater?
The blue LED indicates that the repeater is in communication with the repeater and the operators network. This will light up when you make a phone call. This means that you have the correct frequency and that everything is set up correctly. Make sure that no other device in the house can trigger this blue light.
The first green LED will illuminate at -85 dBm.
The first signal bar on most phones will show at -80 dBm
You may see 1 bar on the phone, but no LED if you are in a very weak signal area. However, the blue LED will still light up even if you do not have the LEDs on.
- Make sure 3G is enabled on your phone if you have a 3G repeater!
- If you have a Samsung phone you can type * # 0011 # and this will show you the frequency and signal strength of your operator.
- A signal strength of -100 dBm is a weak signal, -75dBm is a good signal
Advanced Signal Status is a free app for Samsung phones
"Open Signal" or " Tower Finder" is a free app on your phone, which is like a compass and shows you the direction of your carrier.
Indoor antenna coverage
The signal from the indoor antenna will not pass through a solid concrete wall. It will bounce off the wall and pass through doorways.
So if you have a level 2-3 house with solid interior walls and a concrete floor between the upstairs and downstairs, you will likely need a spliter or signal splitter.
The repeater has stopped working
If the lights flicker on every second set at the same time, this means the power supply is broken.
Interference.
If the indoor antenna and outdoor antenna are not isolated, a feedback will occur. The software program in the repeater will adjust the gain of the repeater to stop this feedback. The result is that the repeater power will be reduced. You may see 4 LEDs when you start the repeater and this will reduce to 2 LEDs.
You should make sure that a solid wall separates the indoor and outdoor antenna.
Another thing that can cause interference is the indoor antenna that is near a microwave oven. You will see the number of LEDs reduce during the day. Move the indoor antenna away from the microwave oven.
Installation
1. Place the outdoor antenna as high as possible, on the roof of the building. Point this panel antenna towards the nearest operator's tower.
2. Bring the cable inside and run it to the repeater.
3. Connect the indoor panel antenna to the repeater and plug in the power supply.
You can use the 6 green lights on the left side of the repeater to align the outdoor antenna precisely.
LED 10 : power indicator. The unit is connected.
LED 1-6 : signal level indicator. Shows the overall power level. For the installation to be considered correct, at least 4 LEDs must be illuminated.
LED 7 (blue) : communication LED. Indicates when your phone is communicating with the repeater.
LED 9 (orange): Automatic gain control/return control. If this LED is illuminated, the repeater is temporarily adjusting the power for best performance.
